Cannot connect to TFS using TFSE for VS2008

Dec 17, 2010 at 2:28 AM

I've got a few projects I haven't touched in a while that were bound to tfs03.codeplex.com, tfs05.codeplex.com, etc... Apparently Microsoft has rejigged Codeplex to use TFS2010 and also changed everything so it's all just tfs.codeplex.com.

I tried to re-bind my projects, but I simply cannot connect to https://tfs.codeplex.com:443. I went looking online and saw I need this: "Visual Studio Team System 2008 Service Pack 1 Forward Compatibility Update for Team Foundation Server 2010". I downloaded it, but the installer said it couldn't find any applicable products installed.

Here is the error I get from TFSE:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio

Team Foundation Server Url: https://tfs.codeplex.com:443.

- The Team Foundation Server is offline.

- Password is expired or incorrect.

What do I need to do to get it to work?

You need to install VS2008 SP1 before you install the forward compatibility pack.  In summary:

  1. Install VS2008
  2. Install Team Explorer
  3. Install VS2008 SP1
  4. Install 2008 Forward Compatibility Pack

Additionally, you should connect the following tfs url: https://tfs.codeplex.com:443/tfs

Thanks,

I re-installed VS2008 SP1 (and rebooted), Team Explorer, and the Forward Compatibility pack (which installed fine this time), but I still get the TF31002 error.

Is there anything else I'm overlooking?
