Codeplex site - HTTPS access

Jul 20, 2010 at 5:34 PM

Hello!

Is it possible to work with codeplex site entirely using https? Currently all links (IssueTracker, Discussions etc) point to http. Event if I go to https://codeplex.com and then click on some link it follows to http location.

I think it isn't the behavior that most users await.

Thanks!

Hi,

We have decided against this as no confidential information is passed over the wire. Anywhere we display or allow input of confidential information (email / password) is securely transmitted.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi! Very strange decision. GoogleCode for example allows https access out-of-the box.

We chose the approach because it makes the site faster.  We didn't think anyone would want to access those pages using the slower protocol given there isn't anything to secure.  No other user has mentioned this before, can you help us understand why you want to use https instead?

You're right -- all content is public. I think this is a habbit of mine to access any resource via https.

What made me think about https is the TFS. For some strange reason it downloading workitems from visual studio for ages ( currently I'm waiting 7 minutes and my firewall reports activity about 28mbytes) Project is wmediacatalog I'll leave my VS opened -- perhaps will want to monitor logs
