Donations to projects

description

It would be very good if CodePlex team implemeted a system for making and receiving donations to projects hosted on codeplex... For the beginning, PayPal would work fine, but PayPal does not allow receiving donations in very many countries, for example Croatia - my country of residence... Due to this restriction it would be good to allow credit card (and if possible, debit card) donations.

Hello, I am from Ukraine, PayPal doesn't work here too.

I've seen some open source projects use www.MoneyBookers.com, would that work?

Turning TFS into some sort of commercial server sounds quite stupid in my opinion.

I have implemented my own links to paypal inside my project (SharePoint sushi). I don't know that Codeplex needs to provide an entire payment system, but what would be most useful to me is the end users knowing that Codeplex does not mind if developers ask for donations. Microsoft doesn't necessarily have to go so far as to encourage donations with a top level navigation link, but perhaps enabling a linkable image especially for donations. (images are not usually linkable as far as I know.) Or perhapsy, a visible Codeplex policy around donations and why they help support the continued free development which is so valuable to end users and provided by Codeplex.

A good article about why Microsoft should do more to support open source efforts: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/001098.html
