GIT support

description

We've already added support for Subversion clients, is there any interest in adding support for GIT clients as well?

Enabling the use of git-svn with CodePlex could be considered enough support.

JayBeavers wrote Jan 22, 2009 at 7:45 PM

I'm interested in distributed version control in general, not necessarily GIT.

sblom wrote Jun 17, 2009 at 6:21 PM

Or Mericurial.

JayBeavers wrote Aug 7, 2009 at 9:16 PM

Adding my support for Mercurial. Much better toolset for Windows/Visual Studio...

fearthecowboy wrote Sep 25, 2009 at 6:15 PM

Yes, This one too.

fearthecowboy wrote Sep 25, 2009 at 6:15 PM

But not a shim on TFS!

deskin wrote Sep 25, 2009 at 6:15 PM

git-svn is good, but is not sufficient. Please support git directly!

prabirshrestha wrote Oct 6, 2009 at 3:27 PM

Please a disturbuted version control system like GIT is great. or TFS needs to support an offline version control system.

scoopsy wrote Oct 26, 2009 at 11:09 PM

I have a beautiful dream where CodePlex offers a choice between TFS, SVN, and Git hosting. Native hosting, not wrappers or adapters. Then we stop having projects where the code is hosted out of codeplex and everyone holds hands into the sunset.

DO NOT CRUSH MY DREAMS!

Git support would be a big plus for the community. Imagine if Codeplex was like Github where you can fork each others code, submit patches etc.

slickjuanito wrote Dec 5, 2009 at 6:17 AM

Yes, definitely. Please add support for Git, native support is preferred. Otherwise everyone is going to start migrating their stuff over to Github...seems that some prominent projects have already migrated.

AArnott wrote Dec 9, 2009 at 5:34 PM

I've written a Git-TFS bridge that allows me to use my git client with a TFS server. It works with branches too. It's not that user-friendly at this point, but perfectly functional. Let me know if you're interested.

I've used Git in the past, but I tend to agree that adding support for distributed source control in general is the key point here for me.

natewaddoups wrote Dec 15, 2009 at 2:07 AM

ANY form of distributed version control would be very welcome.
Even if it's not bzr. :-)

mirogrenda wrote Jan 19, 2010 at 2:31 PM

Yes, please support Git!

prabirshrestha wrote Jan 23, 2010 at 3:34 AM

Now that mercurial is supported, I hope GIT support comes soon. Please!

erichexter wrote Apr 27, 2010 at 6:59 PM

For me having distributed version control is the key. I was a little worried about mecurial at first but I have been happily surprised by how well it works. I not longer need my vote counted for supporting GIT as Mercurial provides what I need in the way of something that works disconected and with less friction than TFS.

vdboor wrote Jun 11, 2010 at 6:44 AM

Bummer. In our company we've standardized on Git.
Not having git support could mean we won't use codeplex.

Anything distributed lowers the barrier for others to contribute, or experiment with our code.
Having to use SVN again (even with git-svn) is a step back from where we are today.
It raises the barrier to make changes, because you can't contribute to code
in SVN before receiving an account from the project manager.

Yes indeed Git Would Be Awesome to add

frp wrote Jul 28, 2010 at 7:57 AM

Please, add git support.

vdboor wrote Jul 28, 2010 at 11:18 AM

FYI, these are two options to run a Git server fully based on .NET 4:
That should make things a lot less complicated, compared to SSH key setups which was previously needed.

mikeobrien wrote Jul 31, 2010 at 3:57 PM

Or at least the ability to override the source code tab to point to a wiki page where you can point to Github or something.

kerryjiang wrote Oct 27, 2010 at 10:23 AM

Yes, please add this feature...

erichexter wrote Oct 31, 2010 at 2:00 PM

-1 on this, but more effort into the existing Hg implementation.

XTZGZoReX wrote Feb 18, 2011 at 12:20 AM

I would love to have real Git support. I use Git for virtually all of my projects, and love it particularly for its excellent branching support and its rebase/stash commands.

daminetreg wrote May 18, 2011 at 9:16 AM

This could be really nice, Git brings alot of features which are not available in others DVCS and SCMs, even in Mercurial.

BigHoss wrote May 18, 2011 at 5:27 PM

Addi Git support already!

BigHoss wrote May 18, 2011 at 5:28 PM

Add Git support already. I'm using SF because you guys don't have support for Git.

christophermaneu wrote Sep 2, 2011 at 11:15 AM

Hi there,
Another voice from a french MVP for the MVP support on codeplex. :)
(moreover, I'll be happy to help for spec, implement or test this feature)

Please add git support!
git-svn is not really working on Windows!

CharlesYoung wrote Feb 22, 2012 at 2:08 PM

First class support for Git would be great

kwoodhouse wrote Feb 26, 2012 at 2:28 AM

One more yes, . . . please.
