Feature request: Windows Live ID

description

At some stage, would it be possible to add this to the WLID network? It would be much more convenient.

I wonder how you would link Windows Live ID authentication with TFS (accessed through Team Explorer). But it seems to be a good idea, since our email addresses are not exposed in the web site as they are, in the end, our Windows Live IDs.

It appears to me that (since we're seeing the snd\ prefix in our TFS logins) that Codeplex is authenticated by AD. AD has offered for years an ability to map Passport (WLID) credentials one-to-one to AD accounts. The integration was gruesome back a few years ago when I last looked, but if there's anyone who can figure out a way to automate the mapping, it oughtta be MSFT.

If Windows Live ID was implemented, I would never come to this site again. Windows Live ID is like King Midas' nemesis, everything it touches turns to .....

WLID is the absolute worst. You still need to register to every site you go to( MSDN Forums, XNA Forums/Xbox, Microsoft Connect, etc. ). WLID cannot remember your password properly. Even if you check it, it doesn't work, because many Microsoft websites that use WLID, do not support it, like MSDN Forums for example. The MSDN Forums have had login/account bugs for YEARS because of WLID and they haven't fixed them yet.

WLID ruins websites, does not enhance them. Please god no don't enable WLID. You'll kill many kittens.

WLID is the future! Spintz is on some mighty fine dr00gz. :) I've used MSDN Forums many many many a time and have never had a problem. Simple login EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is 2008, after all!

Please implement Windows Live ID authentication.

MSDN Code Gallery has Windows Live ID auth. We should get it in codeplex too.

WLID is notorious for problems. Other sites that use WLID simply go down when WLID is not working (Connect, MSDN Forums, etc.). I don't recommend WLID

OpenID is a much better solution... just ask StackOverflow.com

cjm55 wrote Jan 11, 2009 at 2:20 AM

Since the announcement of Windows Live ID being an OpenID provider, surely the best place to demonstrate interoperability and integration would be through codeplex.com?

Right now, a user has different identities for codeplex, the codeplex blog on MSDN blogs and Windows Live IDs (and maybe multiple for each of those identity domains)

Single sign must be a critical feature. The more that this scenario is demonstrated to be compelling, the more buy in that Microsoft will get for their identity solutions. All the Live Framework services, "Geneva" and Active Directory discussed at PDC needs to be promoted through Microsoft's own public facing sites.

I'm happy to discuss more... just wish I'd had time to speak to Sara Ford whilst I was rushing through the lounge...

Codeplex should support LiveID. When implemented properly by a particular site, LiveID works quite well.

There is an open issue for openID in case anyone wants to vote for that: http://codeplex.codeplex.com/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=8833
