Add ability for users to change username

description

I previously picked a username I'd no longer like to show up but there's no way to change or delete it from being displayed.

yes, if not feasible to change it directly, would be nice to be able to change what is displayed. My username was a bit of a pun, but now that I've joined several projects, I'd rather change it to something closer to my real name.

As I understand, Codeplex usernames exist in multiple places. I know Codeplex is tightly integrated with the Active Directory infrastructure behind the site (the "SND\foo_cp" stuff), but they also exist in Codeplex's own databases. So there's at least two places to be changed. It also doesn't help that short of using a Security ID that an account name is often used as a primary key when doing hetrogenous systems interopability. Finally, remember that changing an AD username requires Domain Admin (or delegated) permission, so implementing it in an automated process may be a security liability (hmm, but then again, they have automated the provisioning of new accounts).

Still, they should make it easier to request a name-change, such as an admin contact form with pre-set frequent queries.

I'm in the same situation as PandaWood. Possibility to choose the displayed name will be more then welcome, a must!

They could easily add a new field to the profile provider for "VisibleUserName" or something. Then they could retain the original username as a primary key (and just not display it to the user).

I agree with other commenters, the ability to at least change the display name would be very welcome. I initially created an account with a dummy user name, but now I'd like to use my real name instead... And I can't just create a new account, since I already own a project.
