System Outage Report

Current Outages:

Status update as of April 16th:
At 3pm PDT on April 11th an operator error occurred that caused source control and issue tracker data on one of the Microsoft CodePlex servers to be accidentally overwritten. During the standard data recovery effort, a recovery backup configuration oversight was discovered in the routine backup process for this CodePlex server which is still impacting immediate restoration of some of the data.

Note: The content in the Wiki as well as the release files have not been affected. This current outage only affects projects that were hosted on TFS03.

We are continuing to work on this situation as a matter of highest priority. All affected projects have now had their source control and issue tracker functionality restored however the status of the source control and issue tracker data for some projects remains unknown at this time. We will continue to report back on the issue.

Again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. The necessary corrections are already in place to ensure this situation will not occur again.

Recently resolved outages:

  • Our SQL server crashed and had to be rebooted. Site was down for approximately two hours in the morning on 4/2.

I don't think the TFS servers have really been off-line for two months?

I'm experiencing some problems today, after the TFS upgrade:
- My project site is really slow
- If I search for work items in visual studio team explorer, it returns "TF26193" error
- If I try to associate a work item to a changeset by id, it returns "TF201077" error

It says here: All systems operational.
However, my project source code page says, "Source control for your project is currently unavailable. Source code cannot be accessed at this time."

And it looks like I'm not the only one with that problem.

Please put an estimated date of Completion. Also you should always document the starting date and time of this kind of stuff so we know. I really do not know if there is really something going on or if people just forgot to update this anouncement.

i've created a new Project based on TFS and it seems to be a problematic decision :-S I'm not able to access any information related to the TFS part. No Releases no surce code… nothing. Support ticket is escaleted to the senior team, but still no ETA for a fix.

On dnnbitcoin project, hosted on tfs27 server, the source page is unavailable and my VS TFS connector also gives me a TF246017 "could not connect to the database" error.

All my Mercurial-based projects show an error when I access the Source Code page:

Source control for your project is currently unavailable. Source code cannot be accessed at this time.

My SVN-based projects are OK. And the funny thing is, it seems to be working when I try to contact the repo from Mercurial itself - I am able to perform commands such as hg incoming and hg outgoing and get correct responses.

I'm currently unable to Insert Code Snippet to a discussion topic. I click the Insert Code Snippet window and the pop-up appears. I can paste in my code but the Language drop-down in empty, so I can't Preview my code. The Insert button has no effect - the pop-up stays open. I've tried this on IE8, 9, FF9.01 and Chrome 16.0.912.77 m across two machines on two different networks, this morning.

It's been down all day, but only for certain projects (e.g. http://pathlengthchecker.codeplex.com/SourceControl/list/changesets <-- Not published yet). I also got an error message when creating this new project, although the project actually DID get created.

Since yesterday, I get the following two errors: When I try to access Source Code: "Source control for your project is currently unavailable. Source code cannot be accessed at this time. When I try Publish this Project: "The server experienced an error. We're sorry, but an error has occurred. We have been notified about the error. Most likely this was an intermittent issue.
