I have the same issue.
When I trying to connect with VS2010 Ultimate I get this error:
TF31003: Either you have not entered the necessary credentials or your user account does not have permission to connect to the Team Foundation Server at https://tfs.codeplex.com/tfs. Click the Use different credentials link below, or ask your server administrator to add the appropriate permissions to your account.

I trying to use the following user name: snd\zxmak_cp, \zxmak_cp, zxmak_cp, zxmak
With the same result.

On another side, when I trying to connect with my tfs tool, connect is successful and I can walk and download source from my tool. But VS2010 Ultimate didn't works at all.

Hi Everyone,
I am facing this issue while connecting with TFS
TF31003: Either you have not entered the necessary credentials or the user account does not have permission to connectto the Team Foundation Serverat https//tfs.codeplex.com/tfs. Click the Use different credentials link below, or ask your server administrator to add the appropriate permissions to your account.

I am using my Live Id. I can connect from web but TFS does not allow me.
I have also tried out myusername@SND but still its not working.

Any help would be appreciated.

1. Team Foundation Servers aren't like other source-control systems; they don't have anonymous access. You must be an official developer on at least one Codeplex project before you can connect to their server. And, you will see _only_ the projects where you are a developer.

2. Don't bother to type the port number -- just click on the HTTPS protocol button (it will give the number).

3. Team Foundation Explorer usually doesn't ask you for your username and password; instead, it thinks that it already knows them. It doesn't, of course; so, it tries to connect, and fails. Therefore, when it gives you the "TF31003" error message, you must click on the "Use different credentials" link. Then, you will be able to type your username and password.

4. Don't use a Windows Live ID (or its password)! That ID works on the web site; but, it doesn't work on the Team Foundation Server. You must use only the Codeplex account-name and only the Codeplex password. The account-name has three parts: "snd\" is the first part, your Codeplex username is the second part, and "_cp" is the third part.

Also I cannot join in TFS with my account, the error is TF249002, I don't have the permission ... How can connect to TFS?
Thanks,

Unfortunately I am unable to connect and contribute my project due the following error:

"TF31003: Either you have not entered the necessary credentials or the user account does not have permission to connectto the Team Foundation Serverat https//tfs.codeplex.com/tfs. Click the Use different credentials link below, or ask your server administrator to add the appropriate permissions to your account."

Entering the username as just 'username_cp' as 'snd\username_cp' or without the domain does not seem to matter.

i ready done, well done to connect the team server but what can i do now?

Yomodo Jan 23, 2012 at 4:01 PM
Q: Why do I still need a CodePlex account?
A: We still require a CodePlex account to successfully authenticate with the source control servers.

http://codeplex.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=CodePlex%20FAQ#WindowsLiveID

After you've created a Codexplex account, append _cp you connect.
I still haven't been able to associate my Live ID with my codexplex account though.

further more, you need to be a contributor to the project.

the server is down?? cause i can´t connect since yesterday!!!!!

learonlizheng Nov 18, 2011 at 1:57 AM
why add _cp

nlacka Sep 29, 2011 at 1:07 PM
I was in the same situation. The solution for me was: using https://tfs.codeplex.com/tfs with SND\myusername_cp. (so the domain is SND and had to add extra _cp to the end of my user name.

This is screwed up. I got the same error everyone else is getting, trying to connect in VS 2010/ IS ANYBODY MONITORING THIS FORUM? What the point of having this if nobody who knows anything is actually reviewing it and trying to help? No offense - we just need some help here so we can use your product.

I get
TF82019: The Microsoft Project mapping file contains unrecognized XML elements.

s0ftimage Jun 10, 2011 at 1:41 PM
I would say this instructions are incomplete. I connected successfully to the Codeplex TFS server, but now what? How do I upload my code? Do I need to somehow get latest of my code onto a different folder, to then upload my code into codeplex? Whenever I connect to codeplex my code dissapears. When I open my code, it reverts to the original TFS connection on my computer. How do i get my code into Codeplex???????

ldartez May 6, 2011 at 8:18 AM
to resolve:

"TF31003: Either you have not entered the necessary credentials or the user account does not have permission to connectto the Team Foundation Serverat https//tfs.codeplex.com/tfs. Click the Use different credentials link below, or ask your server administrator to add the appropriate permissions to your account."

enter your username as just 'username_cp' instead of 'snd/username_cp'

strive2019 May 5, 2011 at 5:35 AM
This login name should be written like this: snd\yourname_cp

sola1982 Apr 29, 2011 at 2:40 AM
I can't login in TFS with VS10 , it told me to ask myserver administrator to add the appropriate permissions to my account. why?
please help

kyanha Apr 26, 2011 at 6:01 AM
snd\myusername_cp
website-password (NOT LIVE PASSWORD -- you created your website username and password when you first log into codeplex with your live account)

I blogged about this using vs2010

ooopppss.. only works for my projects... or as: "Note: You will only have permissions for connecting to the CodePlex Team Foundation Server if you have been added as a Coordinator or Developer to one or more CodePlex projects."

GutoCarlos Jan 5, 2011 at 3:21 PM
I can´t connect too... anyone here can? help!!

rukshansamanthila Dec 27, 2010 at 2:34 AM
KrisZ is correct it should be <myusername>_cp@SND for the username, to get the correct domain.

donker Dec 8, 2010 at 11:55 AM
It just doesn't work. It's either VS2010 TFS that has become lame here or CP. I tried several things. Note I have added the login credential to Win credentials so that's fine. 1. I try filling in form as above with path = "tfs". This fails immediately. 2. I try path = "tfs/tfs02" and I can get to my project but the Team Explorer window briefly shows "connecting to etc ..." and then goes blank. I can't add files to the solution.
Even if this turns out to be my fault I find this mechanism deeply flawed. It is the second time this year I'm spending hours figuring out why I can't access my project. I'd rather code!!

jantanis Nov 30, 2010 at 5:37 AM
I can connect to TFS when using my credentials like this: jantanis_cp@SND. But I'm only seeing my own project there and don't have the ability to see others.

gregoryagu Nov 27, 2010 at 3:34 PM
Works for me.

KrisZ Nov 23, 2010 at 7:27 AM
These information are incorrect. To connect to the server, the username has to be <myusername>_cp@SND. But after a "successful" login, TFS throws the exception TFS249002 "Access denied", because the permission "View instance-level information" is missing.

Instructions are outdated: VS TE information is obtained clicking on the appropriate "source control setup" link.
