How do I associate my Windows Live ID account to my CodePlex account?

When you visit the log in screen you should see a "Windows LiveTM ID" button at the top.

image

Click that button to be redirected to the Windows LiveTM ID authentication page. If you successfully authenticate your account you will be redirected back to CodePlex. CodePlex will prompt you to log in with your CodePlex credentials to associate your Windows LiveTM ID account to your CodePlex account.

Log in using your CodePlex ID and password. Next time you log in to CodePlex you can click the "Sign In" link at the top of the page and use your Windows LiveTM ID to log on.

Below is an additional FAQ about Windows LiveTM ID and CodePlex:

Q: Why do I still need a CodePlex account?
A: We still require a CodePlex account to successfully authenticate with the source control servers.

Q: Can I use my Windows Live™ ID login when connecting to TFS, Git, or Mercurial?
A: No. TFS, Git, and Mercurial require Active Directory credentials to verify your identity.

Q: Will I have to still log in with my CodePlex credentials every time I authenticate with Windows Live™ ID?
A: No. This one-time operation is required to associate your Windows Live™ ID account with a CodePlex account. Successive authentications with Windows Live™ ID will automatically authenticate you with CodePlex.

Q: I’m a new user and would like to authenticate with Windows Live™ ID. Do I first need to register with CodePlex and later associate it with my Windows Live™ ID account?
A: No. You can click the Sign In with Windows Live™ ID button on the user registration page. Upon authenticating with Windows Live™ ID, you’ll be redirected back to CodePlex to complete your user registration.

How do I join a project?

Some projects are actively interested in finding new team members, while others are not interested in additional team members. Projects that are actively looking for team members can post openings on our project openings page. For instructions on how to find and apply for jobs on the project openings page go here Search project openings.

If you are interested in a particular project try contacting the project’s coordinators. Only a coordinator of a project can add someone to the project. You can contact the coordinators either by posting in the discussions section for their project asking about joining, or clicking on the coordinators name on the People tab and selecting the Contact option.

I can't afford Visual Studio or Team Foundation Server. Can I still use CodePlex?

CodePlex does not require the use of VSTS (and in fact does not require you to own a version of Visual Studio at all). You can download the free Team Explorer Client, which gives you both a command line client (tf.exe) and a stand-alone version of Visual Studio to host the GUI client. For information about obtaining the Team Explorer Client, see Obtaining the Team Explorer Client.

Why does CodePlex support non-OSI licenses?

Projects licensed under an OSI-approved license represent the majority of our projects. However, we do allow for broader cases of code sharing which may include the use of academic licenses and other custom licenses.

Can I hide / delete the documentation history? Just to clarify, I do not(!) talk about code versions / changesets, but documentation. So old documentation versions just contain outdated changes or typo fixes, somehow I want to get rid of these.

e.g from http://www.opensource.org/licenses/

Why aren't there any "Creative Commons" licenses in the list of licenses? There are tens of millions of content providers (software, audio, video, etc.) on the internet who use CC licenses.

Currently
"How do you change your project from TFS to Mercurial and TFS to Mercurial?"
Should be
"How do you change your project from Mercurial to TFS and TFS to Mercurial?"

Hi, I want to delete my codeplex in before the release of the program do?

charles_dev Mar 9, 2010 at 6:10 PM
I need to share example code. This contains code posted by others as Microsoft, but which are public. Is there any restriction on this? What kind of license do you recommend to me?

How do you use visual studio to create a patch to upload?

tomchap Jan 18, 2010 at 4:22 PM
hi there. Can you let me know how I can get report data from codeplex please? I would like a list of email addresses of people who have contacted the mscui.codeplex discussion forum (without having to manually copy/paste from discussion entries). This is not for spam purposes, but to analyse code usage. Hope you can help!

I am using TFS 2010 Beta 2 as well as VS 2010 Beta 2 and I am not able to connect to CodePlex. I receive the following error message: "TF31002: Unable to connect to this Team Foundation Server" .... Technical information (for administrator): The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.

Thank you in advance for your help

I want to show demo of my PHP project. How can I exceute PHP applications in codeplex? Is it poosible or do I need to purchase separate hosting space?

How do I use an XML patch that I download for a given project?

iceslice Aug 21, 2009 at 1:46 PM
So, "revisions" or "changesets" are used so that you can move back to an earlier state of your project (if you need to). Unless you have super administrative access to the hosting-server you can't delete a "changeset". You don't even need to delete a "changeset". Just go on changing/deleting files as usual & "commit" (or check-in) with your version control client software. When you "update" (or check-out), changes will be reflected to the latest "changeset" automatically.

iceslice Aug 20, 2009 at 8:26 AM
[Revision control (also known as version control, source control or (source) code management (SCM)) is the management of changes to documents, programs, and other information stored as computer files. It is most commonly used in software development, where a team of people may be changing the same files. Changes are usually identified by a number or letter code, termed the "revision number", "revision level", or simply "revision". For example, an initial set of files is "revision 1". When the first change is made, the resulting set is "revision 2", and so on. Each revision is associated with a timestamp and the person making the change. Revisions can be compared, restored, and with some types of files, merged.]

Here "revisions" is similar to "changesets"

I need to delete a changeset how do I do it?

Amrykid Apr 26, 2009 at 3:15 AM
How do i delete all the files off the svn server so i can reupload them.

TMYates Apr 17, 2009 at 2:31 AM
ChangeSets cannot be deleted. Team Foundation uses changesets to identify all changes. If you want to delete source code, you should use one of the clients to delete the controlled files and check in. The latest changeset at that point will show no files when you browse to it and will be as close to a fresh start as you can get. Users can still get code up to that point in time, but that would be the last changeset the code would have existed on.

HEMSELL Mar 13, 2009 at 5:58 AM
Seems a common question on the FAQ is how do I remove change sets so there is only one current version to download, and yet there does not seem to be an answer here.

jkappel Mar 4, 2009 at 8:23 PM
I also need to delete source code I uploaded. But instead, it created another change set. How can I remove all source code and start over?

PVV Feb 26, 2009 at 1:06 PM
How can I delete the source code I uploaded ?

I can't seem to delete Change Sets

If a project is hosted on CodePlex can the authors maintain a copy or a fork that is hosted somewhere else?

jvijayw Jan 7, 2009 at 6:46 AM
what is the procedure to delete or remove a project?

RBisch Nov 7, 2007 at 5:33 PM
Changesets seem misleading to me, or I don't understand them. I would think when you download a changeset from a project, that you would only get the *changed* files, and *not* the whole project. Can someone please explain this?
--TIA

jwanagel Oct 15, 2007 at 6:15 AM
No, the source code is always visible to everyone.

fcarneiro Oct 11, 2007 at 1:07 PM
It’s possible to hide the source code from non team members?

jwanagel Jul 18, 2007 at 10:19 PM
We find that until there is some source code for the project there is not any user interest in them.

nmarcel Jun 29, 2007 at 2:57 AM
Why is a requirement to have a project with source code? What about the initial stages of a project, when just papers and diagrams exists?
