But No More Heroes was designed to jump fences, and he is very good at it. The Gigginstown House horse's jumping in his beginners' chase on his debut over fences at Punchestown last October was superb, fluent and accurate, and it was even better in the Grade 1 Drinmore Chase at Fairyhouse in December. He seems to be able to eye up his fences from a long way out and meet them in his attacking stride, usually making ground on his rivals in the air.
It is significant that, after that Drinmore Chase run, just his second over fences, he was awarded a higher chase mark than his hurdles mark.
And he wasn't a bad hurdler. He was a high-class staying novice last season. He finished third in the Albert Bartlett Hurdle at last year's Cheltenham Festival, beaten just a length and a half by Martello Tower, and that was after he had to be switched on the run to the final flight, finishing off his race away from the stands rail, probably on the slowest part of the track.
If the RSA Chase were run over hurdles, More Of That would have 20lb in hand on official ratings. But, given that it is run over fences, No More Heroes has 5lb in hand.
