Configuring Advertisements

CodePlex provides project owners with the option to host sponsored ads from
Developer Media on their project pages. All advertising revenues from Developer Media go entirely to the project owner.

How do I display ads?

Signed in as a project coordinator, click on the project's Settings tab

Under Fund Your Project, check the Display an ad on your project pages from Developer Media.

You will now see advertisements from Developer Media appear on the Home tab, the Downloads tab, the Discussions tab, and the Issue Tracker.

How do I get paid?

You will need to contact Developer Media at
publishermanager@developermedia.com or 1-416-849-8900 with the name of your CodePlex project using your email address associated with your CodePlex username. If you have multiple CodePlex usernames, you
will need to use the username that created your project. You can contact
CodePlex Support if you need any assistance.

Go back to the top of the page.

Donations

Donating to Projects

There isn't a specific feature for adding a donation link, but you can edit your Wiki pages to include them. If there are other ways CodePlex could help support donation links, please suggest them in the
issue tracker.

You can also add advertisements to your project.

Donating to Charity

For project owners interested in donating their advertisement revenue to charity, you can simply check the
Use Ads from Developer Media, then check the Donate ad revenue to Habitat for Humanity Int’l. The Lounge will donate the combined total from all project owners to Habitat for Humanity each month.

Set Project License

CodePlex supports several of the most popular open source license agreements available. Only the project owner has the permissions to modify the project license.

To change the license go to the License tab and click Change License in the top right action bar. You may then select a license from the the available supported choices.

Donating to Projects

There isn't a specific feature for adding a donation link, but you can edit your Wiki pages to include them. If there are other ways CodePlex could help support donation links, please suggest them in the
issue tracker.

You can also add advertisements to your project.

Donating to Charity

Create a Work Item

You must be signed on to complete this task.

To create a work item
1. From the project’s Home page, click Issue Tracker.
2. From Issue Tracker, click Create New Item.
3. In the Title text box, type a concise description of the work item. A good title captures the essence of the work item so that a reader will be able to understand the basic idea of the work item without having to read the detailed description.
4. Using the Work Item Details list, select the appropriate drop down option for:

Status: Proposed, Active, or Fixed.

Type: Feature, Issue, or Task.

Impact: Low, Medium or High.

Assigned To: Unassigned, or other members on your team (coordinators or developers).

Component: No component, or one or more customized components. If no components are listed, then no component items have been added to the project. See Add a Component to the Project.

Custom: Populate the text box with text of your choosing. See Use the Custom Field and Search for Custom Field Text for more information on using the custom field.

5. In the Description box, type a clear and concise description of the work item. If the work item is an issue (bug), it is often helpful to include steps for replicating the problem.
6. If desired, use the Attach File feature to include a file with the work item.
7. Click Save.

Subscribe to a Work Item via email
You can receive email notifications when someone comments on a bug or the status of a bug changes.

Subscribe to a new bug

Before saving a new bug (see “Create a Work Item” above), select the “Email me” checkbox at the bottom of the work item.

Subscribe to an existing bug

Make sure you are in “Basic View” (link is located under the Home tab).

Open an existing bug.

Select the “Email me” checkbox at the bottom of the work item.

Filter by Work Items you're tracking

Once you've subscribed to one or more bugs via email notification (see above) you can choose to filter and view only those bugs you're tracking

To filter by Work Items you're tracking

Go to a project where you're signed up for at least one bug

Go to your Edit Project Summary & Details section of your CodePlex project

Start a Project

Project Hosting Requirements

Create a Project

Server Hosting - Team Foundation Server

Edit Project Title/Description

Remove Project Discussions

Add Related Projects

Configuring Advertisements

Donating to Projects and Charity

Set Project License

Add/Remove Users to Your Project

Delete a Project

Create a Project

To create a new project on CodePlex, use the following page
Create New Project.

Once you fill out the project creation form, your project is created immediately in "Setup" mode. While in setup mode, your project won't be visible to anyone but the project team members. Once you are finished setting up your project, you then "Publish" it
to make it visible to all users.

To see the requirements for projects on CodePlex see the following:
FAQ: What are project hosting requirements?.

Go back to the top of the page.

Server Hosting on Team Foundation Server

We host the server for you. You have many choices for what source control client you want to use, see

Go back to the top of the page.

Edit Project Title/Description

To edit the project title or description, you must be a Coordinator on that project.

To edit the project title or description:

Signed in as a coordinator, from the project’s Home tab, next to the project title, click
Edit Project Details

Use the Title to change the project name

Use the Description text box to edit the project description

Click Save

Go back to the top of the page.

Remove Discussions

CodePlex features appear as the tabs at the top of your project (Home,
News Feeds, Releases, etc.). By default, all features are enabled on new projects. However, you have the option of removing features.

To add or remove project features in a CodePlex project, you must be a Coordinator on that project.

To add or remove project features from a project:

From the project’s Home tab, next to the project title, click
Edit Project Details

Below the Project Description input box is a checkbox that is checked, as default is to allow discussion of projects

Click the box to remove the check and the discussion tab from your project

Go back to the top of the page.

Add Related Projects

To add or edit related projects, you must be a Coordinator on that project.

From the project’s Home tab, next to the project title, click
Edit Project Details.

At the bottom of the page, enter a project related to yours.

Click Add Project. The project will appear as a link on the right side of your project's home page, between the Activity and Your Tags sections.

Go back to the top of the page.

Configuring Advertisements

CodePlex provides project owners with the option to host sponsored ads from
Developer Media on their project pages. All advertising revenues from Developer Media go entirely to the project owner.

How do I display ads?

Go to your Edit Project Summary & Details section of your CodePlex project

under Fund Your Project, check the Display an ad on your project pages from Developer Media.

You will now see advertisements from Developer Media appear on the Home tab, the Downloads tab, the Discussions tab, and the Issue Tracker.

How do I get paid?

You will need to contact Christina Green at Developer Media directly at christina.green@developermedia.com or 1-416-849-8900 with the name of your CodePlex project using your email
address associated with your CodePlex username. If you have multiple CodePlex usernames, you will need to use the username that created your project.

Go back to the top of the page.

Set Project License

CodePlex supports several of the most popular open source license agreements available. Only the project owner has the permissions to modify the project license.

To change the license go to the License tab and click Change License in the top right action bar. You may then select a license from the the available supported choices.

Add/Remove Users to Your Project

To edit project membership, you must be a Coordinator on that project. The user that you add must already be registered with CodePlex.

Add Developer:

From the People tab, click Manage Team

In the space provided, type the name of the registered user, and then click

Add Coordinator:

If you want to change the user from Developer to Coordinator, select
Coordinator from the Coordinator Role list, and then click
Update

Remove a User from the Project:

From the People tab, click Manage Team

Select the check box next to the user you want to remove, and then click

Go back to the top of the page.

Add any tags to your job posting that are related to the job
